My primary goal in painting is to capture the beauty and memory of "actual places" once visited by the viewer. I wish to transport the viewer to these special places and events. The viewer will either recognize the depicted location from past memory or wish to visit the site in the furture.
I currently work in transparent watercolors for most of my paintings or oil. I like to add visually exciting color to help enhance mood. This use of accentuated color has become my noted trademark. I choose my subject matter for the beauty or romance of the location. As an accomplished photographer, I attempt to capture the subjects of my paintings at many times during the day and under various weather conditions. This helps present the "best view" for composing a finished painting. I sometimes start sketching and painting the work on location to aid in depicting a specific mood. My paintings of lighthouses, country barns, hot-air balloons and cityscapes are done using this method or composed from several photographs.
